Bruno Bosteels

Art, Politics, History
Notes on Badiou and Rancière

In his article, Bruno Bosteels does not continue Alain Badiou’s thinking in an exegetic commentary, but employs it in such a way that it thinks through the events of our times. The questions which Bosteels poses are: What does it mean to think in the present? And what does it mean to think in the present under the conditions of certain events of the past, whether remote or recent? By going into the philosophical positions of Badiou and Rancière in his remarks, Bosteels demonstrates the transformations in art and politics. The problem which Bosteels’ article is concerned with is the relationship between art or politics and the historicity of their concepts and practices. The encounter between Badiou and Rancière proves for Bosteels to be capable of creating a new configuration of historicity in order not to reduce the historicity of art or politics to a mere historicism.

Inästhetik will internationale zeitgenössische Konfigurationen sichtbar machen und operiert daher bewusst mehrsprachig.
